How does your day typically start?
My day starts around 8 a.m. I come in, get myself set up for the day, and then head down to the floors. I check in with my staff, make sure everyone is here, and see if there's issues to resolve or last-minute adjustments to be made. I also ensure that the consultants have what they need and then we start the day as patients begin arriving.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I love every day in my job and every day is different. It's challenging and interesting as I get to meet a huge array of people from different nationalities and cultures. I also get to work with a fantastic team.
Can you tell us about your career journey?
I've been a medical secretary since I was 18 years old starting at Barts in the NHS. Since then, I've worked in private healthcare for over 10 years in London, and although the methods have changed with technology, the fundamentals of patient care remain the same.
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
The most rewarding part for me is working with the team. Over the last six months, we've worked hard to build a strong administrative team with medical secretaries and schedulers. It's been challenging but incredibly rewarding to see the team grow and strengthen.
What excites you about the future of Mayo Clinic Healthcare?
We're looking to grow, bring in new consultants and specialties, and possibly move in different directions. It's exciting to think about the endless possibilities and the potential for expanding our services. Mayo Clinic Healthcare offers fantastic care, and our team is stronger than ever. Patients are supported from their first phone call to the end of their journey with us.
Can you tell us about the Mayo Clinic values?
The Mayo Clinic values are central to everything we do. We discuss them daily in our morning huddles, and they guide both our patient care and how we work as a team. The idea that "the patient comes first" is a motto we live by every day.
What is unique about working at Mayo Clinic Healthcare?
Mayo Clinic Healthcare is unique, especially here in London, as it's the only Mayo Clinic site outside of the US. We receive a lot of support from the US, and it's incredible to work with consultants who are at the top of their fields. Building strong relationships with them is a privilege.
What can patients expect when they visit the clinic?
We're located in the heart of the Marylebone Health Area, which is highly competitive but also world class. The prestigious address on Portland Place, combined with our beautiful building, creates the perfect environment for our patients and staff.
When patients walk through our doors, we want them to feel cared for and listened to, with the confidence that we are delivering exactly what they expect — excellent care from start to finish.
What do you enjoy outside of work?
Outside of work, I spend most of my time with my family, especially my two grandsons, who live nearby. I also love reading — whether it's on my commute, before bed, or during the weekends, you'll usually find me with a book in hand!
