What does your role involve?
As Chief Cardiac Physiologist, I perform various tasks like ultrasounds of the heart, stress tests using a treadmill, and heart rhythm analyses. I also analyse EKGs, prepare preliminary reports, and then pass them on to consultants. The job is complex but that's what keeps it exciting for me. It's a big responsibility but I enjoy growing and learning every day.
What do you enjoy the most about your job?
I love that I'm always learning something new. This role keeps me updated and pushes me to bring my best self to work. It's a very fulfilling job because I feel like I'm making a real difference. It's not just about completing tasks; it's about giving 100% to our patients and making sure they leave happy.
How would you describe the work environment?
Everyone is kind and respectful. The teamwork is excellent. I've been here for two years, and I'm happy with how the team functions. It feels like a family, and the support is always there when needed. That's something that's rare and special about this place.
How do you approach patient care?
When patients come through the door, I don't see them as just patients. I try to treat them like clients — talk to them, ask them how their life is going, and do small things like playing classical music or offering coffee to help ease their anxiety.
It's important to me that they feel comfortable, and I make sure to address all their needs before they leave. Patient care goes beyond just the medical procedure; it's about making sure they feel heard and cared for.
What's the most rewarding part of your job?
The most rewarding part of my job is helping patients get the right diagnosis. I help find problems with their hearts, which is not always good news, but it's better to catch issues early so they can be treated properly. It's fulfilling to know that I'm playing a part in improving their health and making sure they get the care they need.
What do you do outside of work?
Outside of work, I'm still quite focused on learning more about my profession. I study guidelines and keep myself updated. But I also have other interests — I'm into finance, stocks, and real estate. My wife, who is also a cardiac physiologist, and I spend time together with our 12-year-old daughter as family life is a big priority for me.
How would you describe your journey to becoming a cardiac physiologist?
Originally, I was a registered nurse in the Philippines. When I couldn't find many job opportunities in nursing, I shifted to this career. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as I found that I loved being a cardiac physiologist more than I did nursing. Both careers are about patient care, but this field gives me more opportunities to grow and specialise in heart health.
