Expertise

Professor Pradeep Bhandari is a leading gastroenterologist. He played the pioneering role of introducing in UK clinical practice novel endoscopic techniques, such as the use of acetic acid for early detection of Barrett’s cancer and using endoscopic mucosal resection and endoscopic submucosal dissection to remove early cancers and very large polyps.

He specialises in management of a range of gastrointestinal conditions, including early cancers, Barrett's oesophagus, acid reflux, irritable bowel syndrome, dyspepsia, peptic ulcers, rectal bleeding and obesity, amongst other conditions. He is an expert in advanced endoscopic procedures, including early diagnosis of cancers, endoscopic resections for cancers and minimally invasive techniques to treat swallowing problems related to range of conditions. He is one of the leading experts in the field of third space endoscopy and performs procedures like POEM, G-POEM, Z-POEM and similar procedures for treatment of swallowing disorders, delayed emptying and zenkers diverticulum. Professor Bhandari also provides screenings for gastrointestinal cancers and is an accredited by the NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Programme as a bowel cancer screener. He serves as Professor of Gastroenterology at the University of Portsmouth and has been the Chair of the British Society of Gastroenterologists (BSG) Cancer Group. He currently holds the Research Chair of European society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE).

Professor Bhandari is a member of a number of key organisations in his field, including the British Medical Association (BMA), Royal College of Physicians, European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. He received the Hopkins Endoscopy Award from the British Society of Gastroenterology for technical innovation in the field of endoscopy, and the Crystal Award from the American Gastroenterology Association for research in early cancer diagnosis, both in 2013.
